PSP and the A/V Tech

As a freelance audiovisual technician, I get to work all over the place. I’ve got miles on every major air carrier there is. So, as a result of my insane travel schedule, I tend to find myself with captive time on airlines and in airports.

The PSP is perfect for folks like me. Sure, I’ve got a few games, but the real draw is from the fat 1GB Memory Stick and iPSP and PSPWare for my Powerbook . With that combo, I can rip DVDs and re-encode them to play back on the PSP.

At the moment, I’m partial to iPSP’s encoding. Instead of giving you an estimate of the size of a quality setting, like PSPWare does, iPSP lets you target a memory stick size. That makes more sense to me for some reason.

The PSP 2.0 US firmware upgrade is supposed to happen tomorrow. For some reason it was delayed a few more days from the original date of the 12th. I’m betting it was because Sony didn’t want to deal with weekend support. Of course the 2.0 upgrade has me salivating because it will become my quick web device where there is Wi-Fi access.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to figure out a way to call this device a true business expense.
